Leona M. Secord, 76, of Monroe, died at 5:25 AM, Thursday, November 16, 2006 in the Lutheran Home, where she had been since October 12th. She had been in declining health for several years. Leona was born September 27, 1930 in Flat Rock to Victor and Beatrice (Wohlfeil) Werner. A lifetime resident of Monroe, she was a 1947 graduate of Monroe High School. Upon graduation she attended Michigan Agricultural College (Michigan State University) where she met Donald J. Secord. They were married February 18, 1950 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Monroe. She was a homemaker and very active in the Lutheran Church, over the years she had taught Sunday School, was in the adult choirs and handbell choirs, and a member of the bible classes. Leona was a member of the Ladies Lutheran Home Guild and Grace Lutheran Church. She was active with 4 H and served as a leader for 30 years. She also served as the deputy treasurer of Raisinville Township for 16 years. Survivors include her husband, son, Daniel J. (Teresa) of Monroe, daughters, Donna M. (Rev. Dale) Koehneke of Hong Kong, Cynthia S. (Timothy) Ernst of St. Joseph, MI, and Donita A. (Robert) Auxter of Monroe, sister, Frieda A. (Ronald) Bruck of Zimmerman, MN, 11 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. Sadly, her parents, an infant daughter, Holly Kay, and a brother, Victor H. Werner preceded her in death. Friends may call 2-9 PM Saturday and 12-9 PM Sunday at the Bacarella Funeral Home. She will lie in state Monday at Grace Lutheran Church from 10 AM until services at 11 AM. Interment will take place at Gethsemane Cemetery. Rev. Ronald C. Schultz of Grace Lutheran Church and Rev. David Hollender of Caro, MI will officiate. Memorial gifts in Leona's name may be given to Grace Lutheran Church or Lutheran Homes of Michigan.
