Leon C. Bowman, age 98 of LaSalle, MI, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital.
Born February 10, 1924 in Sidnaw, MI, Leon was the son of Howard and Flossie (Gazlay) Bowman. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1943 and married Harriet A. Karwick on December 31, 1955 in Toledo, OH.
Leon honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII from Aug. 13, 1943 to Dec. 23, 1945. As a mortar gunner, he served with the 424th Infantry Regiment, 106th Infantry Division, obtaining the rank of Sergeant. He served in Central Europe, Rhineland, and the Ardennes where he was taken prisoner at the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Purple Heart, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Medal for his bravery and patriotism to our country.
Leon was employed by Enterprise Roofing in Toledo for many years. He enjoyed deer hunting, bowling, playing softball, reading, and doing puzzles. He was a member of American Legion Post 225 and Toledo Roofers Local 134.
Leon is survived by his wife of 67 years, Harriet Bowman; son, Eric (Kye) Bowman of DuPont, WA; daughter, Tanya Anderson of Milton, FL; sister, Marlene (Richard) Rigel; three grandchildren, Andrea Bowman, Jasmine Bowman, and Bo Anderson.
In addition to his parents, Leon was also preceded in death by five brother's, two sisters, and son-in-law Pete Anderson.
In keeping with Leon's wishes, no services will be held at this time. Bacarella Funeral Home is assisting the family with cremation and interment arrangements at Roselawn Memorial Park.
