Lena Mae Keck, 85 years, of Monroe, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 14, 2023 at Wellspring Lutheran Home in Monroe.
Born April 11, 1938 in Harrogate, Tennessee, Lena was the daughter of the late William "Moss" and Nola (Cosby) Brittain. The family moved to Monroe when Lena was a child and she attended Monroe Public Schools.
On August 26, 1967, Lena married her husband, James "Norm" Keck at the First Presbyterian Church in Monroe. Sadly, he preceded her in death on January 20, 1997 after 29 years of marriage.
In addition to being a wonderful homemaker, Lena had an incredible work ethic and held several jobs in Monroe. She worked for many years in food service at the Park Hotel and at the Little Dixie Restaurant. She also ran the deli at Casper's Market, which became Monroe Liquor Plaza, from which she retired in 1997.
Lena enjoyed going to garage sales, and more than anything, she loved time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Lena is survived by her daughter and son in law, Sandy S. and Gene Mason of Monroe, three grandchildren: Michele (David) Schmalzel, Rachele (Mark) Donofrio, and Molly (James) Sheridan all of Monroe, five great grandchildren: Nick, Ally, Charleston, Jack, and Sydney, two step sons: David (Judy) Keck of Monroe and Steven (Nancy) Keck of Fowlerville, MI, a sister in law, Annie Brittain of Carleton, and a brother in law, Pete Pope of Monroe.
In addition to her parents and husband, Lena was preceded in death by a brother, Luke, a sister, Lila Pope, and her best friend, Ruth Turner.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 2 – 7 pm at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, Michigan, 48161, where funeral services celebrating Lena's life will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 11:00 am. Rev. William Brown, will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
