Leland M. "Lee" Robinson, 88 years, of Monroe, MI went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 3, 2011 at 8:33 AM in Mercy Memorial Hospital. Lee had been in declining health for the past year.
Born June 21, 1923, in Kokomo, IN, Lee was the son of the late C. Allen and Violet F. (Hienemann) Robinson. Lee was a graduate of Kokomo High School.
Lee served his country honorably and proudly in the US Air Force during WWII. He served from January 20, 1943 until his discharge on December 8, 1945. While in service Lee spent 2 years at Southwest Texas State University where he attended various pilot training programs, including the B-29 Engineering School. He was awarded the American Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal.
On January 21, 1949 Lee married his beloved wife the former Helen Jean Braun in Kokomo, IN.
Lee was employed as head of advertising for La-Z-Boy from which he retired on February 28, 1982. He also was an owner of the Park N Snack restaurants that were located in Monroe.
He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and the VFW Post 1138 in Monroe. He enjoyed playing golf and traveling.
Lee is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years Helen, 2 loving daughters; Karen Sue (Brad) Sortor of Monroe, MI and Peggy Jean (Bill) Kaler of Indianapolis, IN. 4 cherished grandchildren and 3 treasured great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Lee was preceded in death by a granddaughter; Emily Kaler and a brother; Allen Robinson.
Lee's wishes were to be cremated. Lee's family will greet friends on Friday, July 8, 2011 in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., in Monroe from 10:00 AM until a memorial service celebrating his life at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Evans C. Bentley pastor of St. Paul's United Methodist Church will officiate.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to St. Paul's United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund or to the American Cancer Society.
