Lawrence P. Setzler, 97, of LaSalle, formerly of Blissfield, died Friday, September 8, 2006 at 10:25 AM in Tendercare of Monroe where he had been since January. He had been in poor health since last December and seriously ill since entering the nursing home. He was born September 9, 1908 in Metamora, OH to Frederick J. and Jennie A. (Myers) Setzler. He was married to the former Bessie L. Doty, January 1, 1931 in S. Rockwood, MI; they made their home in Blissfield. He was a farmer and also a District Sales Manager for Arthur Walters Seed Company, a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Blissfield, he also was a life member of the Palmyra F & AM, #184, the Fairfield OES, #224, and the Monroe County Farm Bureau. He and his wife spent their winters in Bradenton, FL from 1969 through the late 1980's when they moved back to Michigan full time. Sadly, she preceded him in death, December 28, 2002. He is survived by 2 sons, Ralph B. (Jean) of LaSalle and Richard L. (Debbie) of Detroit, a daughter, Lois J. Phillips of Saginaw, and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. His parents, a brother, Clay, a sister, Florence, a granddaughter, and a great granddaughter also preceded him in death. Friends may call 1-8 PM Sunday at the Bacarella Funeral where services will be held Monday at 11 AM. The Rev. Sam Luke, senior pastor of the Stewart Road Christian Ministries Center will officiate and burial will take place next to his wife at the Pleasantview Cemetery, Blissfield. Memorial gifts in his name may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
