Lawrence R. Nielsen, 72 years, of Monroe, Michigan, passed away Friday, April 3, 2015 in his home.
Born March 11, 1943 in Wyandotte, Michigan, Larry was the son of the late Aksel and Josephine Rose (Lodico) Nielsen. Larry attended Riverview High School in Riverview, Michigan
Larry worked as both a crane operator and as a truck driver for 30 years at Great Lakes Steel, which is now US Steel in Ecorse, Michigan. He retired in 2003.
Larry was an avid hunter, fisherman and motorcyclist. He especially enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson. Larry also enjoyed tinkering with many projects around the house.
Larry is survived by two loving children: Joe J. (Richelle) Nielsen of Monroe and Misty D. (Ennis) Smith of Lincoln Park, MI, two step daughters: Rachel and Samantha, eleven cherished grandchildren, four treasured great grandchildren, two brothers: Bernie (Philomena) Nielsen of Atlanta, MI, and Jim Nielsen of TN, and two sisters: Senea Nemecek of S. Lyon, MI and Charlene Antonio of Wyandotte, MI.
Larry's family will greet friends on Friday, April 10, 2015 in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, MI, 48161, from 4:00 PM until a memorial service celebrating his life at 6:00 PM. In keeping with Larry's wishes cremation has been held.
