Lawrence A. Gabriel Jr., 80, of Monroe, died at 1:28 AM, Monday, June 4, 2007 in his daughter's home. He had been in poor health for 3 months. He was born March 7, 1927 in Monroe to Lawrence A. and Ann (Mushek) Gabriel Sr. He served in the Merchant Marines from July 13, 1944 until October 7, 1944, he then enlisted in the US Army on March 17, 1947 in Dearborn, MI serving until his discharge, August 20, 1948 at Separation Point, Fort Jay, NY. On July 12, 1952 he married Anna Mae Harmon in Napoleon, OH. Sadly, she preceded him in death on October 22, 1998. Ford Motor Company employed Lawrence as a union steward for 31 ½ years retiring April 1, 1982. He was a life member of the Moose Lodge #884, Monroe Rod and Gun Club, UAW Local #723, a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2254, and enjoyed hunting, traveling, and his family. He is survived by his 2 sons, Floyd L. (Sandy) and Alan D. (Patricia), both of LaSalle, 2 daughters, Denise M. (John) Smith and Lorna A. Gabriel, both of Monroe, 3 sisters, Marcelle (Wallace) Proskie of Monroe, Muriel Southworth of Carleton, and Jane (Fred) Harris of Minneapolis, MN, a sister-in-law, Dawn Gabriel of Willis, 9 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. A brother, William Charles Gabriel, also preceded him in death. Friends may call Wednesday at the Bacarella Funeral Home from 10 AM until services at 1 PM. Rev. Roy Southerland of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church will officiate with burial taking place at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle.
