Larry Wayne Townley, age 66 of Monroe, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2024 at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital.
Born September 30, 1957 in Trenton, Michigan, Larry was the son of Ellis and Patsy (Cannon) Townley. He married Shirley Varney on October 4, 1979 in Newport News, Virginia.
Larry honorably served his country in the U.S. Army from 1976 to 1982. He was a 1976 graduate of Willow Run Highschool and later obtained an associate degree in plant management. He was employed by U.S. Steel as a millwright for many years before his retirement in 2012.
Larry often spent his time playing scrabble and chess and watching jeopardy, he had a passion for history and music that he was happy to share with anyone. He loved John Wayne movies, motorcycles, his dog Lucy, and his country. More than anything he enjoyed time spent with his loved ones, whether it was watching his granddaughter run track or listening to his grandson play the guitar, Larry was happiest when he was with his family.
Larry is survived by his wife, Shirley of Newport, two children, Amber (Nathan Bowman) Townley of Newport, and Logan Townley of Newport, two brothers, Michael and Robert "Bobby" Townley, and two grandchildren, Keaghan Townley and Piper DeBerry.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents as well as a brother, Gary Townley and a sister, Joyce Townley.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, July 26, 2024 at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, where funeral services will be held at 3 p.m.
