Larry G. Sortor, Sr., 80 years, a lifelong resident of Monroe, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at Monroe Springs Rehab and Nursing Center after a brave and long battle with Parkinson's Disease.
Born February 28, 1945, in Monroe, Larry was the son of the late Gilbert E. and Florabell H. (Miller) Sortor. Larry attended Monroe Public Schools and was a 1963 graduate of Monroe High School. He went on to graduate from Cleary Business College in 1969.
On January 27, 1967, Larry married the love of his life, the former Kay L. Giarmo, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monroe.
Larry started working at La-Z-Boy in September of 1966. He started out in the shipping department, loading chairs into railroad box cars. He then moved to data processing as a computer programmer. Several years later he was promoted to Computer Operations Manager. In subsequent years he assumed responsibility for contract negotiations for computer software, hardware, and fixed asset acquisitions. He retired in 2004 as Information Technology Director after 38 years with the company.
Larry enjoyed golfing, fly fishing, boating, snowmobiling, and traveling, which included trips to Alaska and Hawaii. Each November, Larry and his brothers gathered at the cabin in Curtisville to hunt the Michigan Whitetail, a family tradition like none other. Most of all Larry loved time spent with family.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Kay, two loving sons: Larry G. (Mirla) Sortor, Jr. of Cape Coral, FL, and Todd Joseph (Denise Strahm) Sortor of Dundee, a cherished grandson, Dante Joseph Sortor, and three brothers: Ronald of Curtisville, MI, Brad of Lewiston, MI and Keith (Janet) Sortor of Erie.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by two brothers: Timothy and Gary.
