Obituary

Larry David Hensley, age 73, of Monroe, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital.
Larry was born June 14, 1952 in Monroe. He was the son of William Burtis and Mary Magdeline (Berry) Hensley. He was raised by his mother and stepfather Herman Smith. After spending many years in the same schools, but never actually crossing paths, Fate came to be & he met the love of his life Jennifer J. Carroll when he was 17 and she was 14. They went on to marry two years later on December 11, 1971. They celebrated their 50th anniversary by renewing their vows in December 2021 and would have celebrated 54 years married later this year. They shared a wonderful life together and had a very special kindred love for one another. They will be forever soul mate's...
Larry was a proud American, who wanted to service his country in the Vietnam War but was unable to due to previous injuries.
He worked as a manager for grocery stores for many years before working for Wonder Bread as a truck driver, retiring in 2002 due to a back injury.
Larry was a lifelong member of Grape Missionary Baptist Church, where he also preached the word of God. Larry lived his life for the Lord. He fulfilled that love by inspiring, being a guiding light to anyone who would listen. He always said, "Let your life be a light," and he surely left his upon the world. Larry also enjoyed fishing and deer hunting. But what he loved most, was the time spent with his family and especially cherished the time with his grandchildren.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Jennifer; three daughters, Shanna (Shayne Behm) Gibson, Michelle Hensley and Amber (Randy Hourigan) Hensley all of Monroe; grandchildren, Paige Olivia Gibson, Dominic Michael David Gibson, Zachary David Sean Hensley, Raina Nevaeh Hourigan and Noah Jonathan David Hourigan; three brothers, Bobby Smith of Monroe, Mike (Edith) Smith of Petersburg and Roger (Pauline) Smith of Monroe.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 1, 2025 from 2 to 8 p.m. at Bacarella Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 12 noon with his brother, Rev. Bobby Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle.
