Obituary

Larry E. Ferguson, age 64, a lifelong resident of Carleton, MI passed away peacefully, Friday, January 16, 2009 in his home surrounded by his loving family. An eight year survivor of cancer, Larry had been in declining health for the past few years and seriously ill for the past several weeks. Larry was born September 21, 1944 in Carleton, MI the son of the late Benjamin W. and Katie Mae (Parkhurst) Ferguson. Larry was a 1963 graduate of Airport High School. From 1964 until 1971 Larry proudly served his country in the US Army National Guard in Company B, 156th Signal Battalion. On September 17, 1966 in Carleton, Larry married his beloved wife the former Sandra Kay Heinzerling. Larry was employed by Ford Motor Company as a carpenter at the Woodhaven Stamping Plant from 1966 until his retirement on November 1, 1996. Larry was a member of the UAW Local 387 and has been a devoted member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Monroe. Larry and Sandy loved to travel to the southern states of Kentucky and Tennessee where they enjoyed the mountains and the music. They spent several winters in Ocala, FL. Larry also enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing golf and his family especially his grandchildren. Larry is survived by his beloved wife Sandra, his 2 loving sons; Troy S. and Kari Ferguson of Taylor, MI and Todd E. and Jennifer Ferguson of Carleton; 4 cherished grandchildren; Troy Jr., Alex, Austin, and Emily, 3 sisters; Elizabeth Kuzewski of Alpena, MI, Bonnie Ferguson of Monroe and Lois Harvell of Carleton, his mother in law, 6 brother's in law and 6 sister's in law and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 sister Violet Hutchinson and 3 infant brothers. The family would like to thank Detroit's Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Center and the DMC for their ongoing committed care for the past 8 years. Special thank you to Dr. Donald Weaver, Dr. Anthony Shields and assistant Laurel Beth Stroempl. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home where funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Monday, January 19, 2009 at 11:00 AM. Pastor Karl Doerner will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Seventh Day Adventist Church or Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe.
