Kenneth Mullins, age 52 of Newport, MI, passed away unexpectedly in his home on Thursday, October 5, 2023.
Born May 30, 1971 in Monroe, Ken was the son of the late Okey and Theodosia (Reed) Mullins. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1989 with his lifelong friends. He then went on to have two children, Holly and Cole, whom he loved more than life itself.
As a crane operator, Ken was currently working out of International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 324, where he has been since 1999. He also carried on a family tradition started by his father doing auto mechanic work out of "Okey's Garage" which was really a place he enjoyed tinkering with his and his family members cars.
He always put both Holly and Cole first, raising them was his greatest joy. He then became the worlds best Papa ever to his four grandchildren Tucker, Weston, Sutton, and Renley. He loved his son in law, Tyler, and future daughter in law, Zoe, as his own children. Ken and his kids became the best of friends in their adult life and they shared countless dinners, group chats, face times and more. He always threw the best 4th of July party where the family would gather and watch Ken light off more fireworks than any one family needed.
Ken was a huge Pittsburgh Steelers Football, University of Michigan Football, and Boston Celtics Basketball fan. He had several hobbies and interests that include his Big Ten Fantasy Football League, golfing, watching movies, and socializing with his life-long friends. Wherever he went he always had candy with him, and usually few scratch-off lottery tickets. Life with Ken was never boring. All special event days, good or bad, always included Detroit Beach Pizzeria.
Ken is survived by two children, Holly (Tyler) French and Cole (Zoe Messer) Mullins, both of Newport, MI, and four grandchildren Tucker, Weston, Sutton, and Renley French. His brother, Gary (Regina) Mullins of LaSalle, MI. His ex-wife Traci Burhart-Mullins of Newport, MI, and more extended family members.
Family and friends may visit from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12th at Bacarella Funeral Home where services will be held the next day on Friday at 11 a.m. Rev. Spencer Snow of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church will officiate, followed by burial at Huron Valley Cemetery in Flat Rock.
Although Ken will be missed, he is now reunited with his parents, Okey and Theo, and other family members he loved.
