Kenneth K. Finzel, age 75, of Monroe MI., passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 2:40 AM in his home. Ken had been seriously ill for the past 3 weeks. Ken was born September 25, 1933 in Monroe the son of the late Floyd B. and Louise M. (Krug) Finzel. A 1951 graduate of Monroe High School, Ken went on to receive an engineering degree from Valparaiso University in 1955. After receiving his degree, Ken served his country proudly in the US Army. On September 4, 1955 Ken married his beloved wife the former Carolyn I. Bockmier in her hometown of Olean, New York. Sadly, she preceded him in death on May 27, 1990. Ken was employed as a Mechanical Engineer at La Z Boy for 20 years until his retirement in 1997. He also farmed on the family farm in Frenchtown Township. Ken was baptized at Grace Lutheran Church, confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church and was currently a member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church where he served as an usher. Ken is survived by 4 children; Katherine L. (David) Thomas of Minneapolis, MN, Diane M. Onan of Monroe, MI, Nef (Darol) Straub of Ann Arbor, MI and David A. (Lisa) Finzel of Calumet, MI, 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and 3 sisters; Dorothy (Robert) Krueger of Westland, MI, Judy (David) Younglove of Monroe, MI and Janice Finzel Smith of Monroe, MI. In addition to his wife and parents Ken was preceded in death by a sister Lois Dais. Visitation will be held on Monday from 2-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. in Monroe. On Tuesday, April 7, 2008 he will lie in state from 2:00 PM until funeral services celebrating his life at 3:00 PM at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church. The Rev. Larry K. Loree Sr., pastor of the church, will officiate. Private interment services will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu or flowers memorial contributions may be made to Holy Ghost Lutheran Church.
