Katherine J. Petrovich, 93 years, of Monroe, Michigan, passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at ProMedica Toledo Hospital.
Born January 24, 1930 in Speedwell, TN on the family homestead, Katherine was the daughter of the late John Perry and Luster Ellen (Patton) Welch. She was a graduate of Powell Valley High School and attended Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, TN.
She started working for Greyhound Post-House in Middlesboro, KY with her twin brother. She then moved to Louisville, KY and worked as a ticket agent for Greyhound where she worked for 30 years. She retired in 1986.
Katherine's first marriage was to James Edward Grace. On February 20, 1975 Katherine married her beloved husband Steven T. Petrovich in Louisville, KY. They would make their home in both Monroe and Kentucky. Sadly, Steven preceded her in death on October 3, 1993 after 18 years of marriage.
Together they owned Mix + Match Glassware in Monroe, where she became a passionate collector of "fine" things. She could be found at Goodwill or local thrift store looking for special finds.
During her later years, she spent much of her time surrounded by family and friends. She would tell stories of her childhood home, that her daddy built, her many siblings and the adventures she had walking through the valley to and from school.
Katherine was a devoted and active member of the Jehovah Witness Hall in Monroe. She was also a member of D.A.R. and enjoyed country line dancing, flower gardening, antiquing, and traveling.
She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Grace (Daniel) DiBiase of Monroe; seven grandchildren, Steven (Sarah) Hungerford, Chelsea (Patrick Hinkley) Blevins, Collin Blevins, Kent Blevins, Nigel (Jessica) Turner, Mark (Liana) Haller, and Laura (Ari Kalfus) Haller; thirteen great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Sandra Lynn Haller; one great granddaughter, Nadia Dawn Hungerford; six brothers, Jim, Harold, Arlie, George, Lewis and her twin, Kyle "Cass"; two sisters, Virginia, and Carolyn.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 1, 2023 at Bacarella Funeral Home 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, MI, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Elder David Cherry will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle.
