Obituary

Karen Ann Flint, age 69 of Newport, MI, passed away peacefully in her home with her husband and children by her side, Sunday, December 8, 2024.

Born July 5, 1955 in Monroe, MI, Karen was the daughter of Mary (Karnicki) and the late John Murphy. She attended St. Patrick Elementary School and graduated from St. Mary Academy in 1973. On May 12, 1978 she married John Flint at Saint Charles Catholic Church in Newport.

Karen worked for several years at Michigan Gas Utilities before devoting her time as a homemaker raising her children and grandchildren. As an active member of Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Newport, Karen facilitated the Eucharistic Adoration Chapel for many years, began the Prayer Committee, and volunteered in many facets for her church. She always devoted her prayer time in the chapel to those early morning and late night holy hours.

Karen enjoyed walks outside-in any season, crafting, vacations up north at the family cabin in West Branch, garage sales, and spending time with and spoiling her 8 grandchildren. She was a kid at heart and enjoyed every adventure with them. She loved to sew, provide sewing services for others, and spent much time quilting with her sisters and playing card games with family. Karen's giving spirit and kind heart has left an impression on many.

Karen's passing was preceded by her brother: Timothy Murphy; Father: John Murphy; brother-in-law; Joseph (Sue) Emerick.

Karen leaves to cherish her memory, a loving husband of 46 years, John: three beloved children; daughter, Beth (Chad) Lechy; daughter, Shannon (Mike) VanWashenova; son, Andrew (Megan) Flint; eight grandchildren: Abigail, Blake, Braden, Adam, Wyatt, Sophie, Tyler, and Austin; her mother: Mary Murphy; five siblings: Jay (Julie) Murphy, Sue Emerick, Janice Raymo (Jordy Czarnik), Kenny (Theresa) Murphy, and Dawn (Dave) Rafko. She also enjoyed the many good times spent with her brother-and-sister-in-laws and her 30 nieces and nephews, 54 great nieces and nephews, and 4 great-great nieces and nephews.

Family and Friends may visit from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13th at Bacarella Funeral Home where the Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Karen will lie in state Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. by Monsignor Charles Kosanke, Pastor-Basilica of Ste. Anne de Detroit, followed by burial at St. Charles Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Academy.
