Julie Lynn Banek, age 62, of Newport, passed away Thursday, July 9, 2026 in her home.

Julie was born October 16, 1963 in Monroe. She was the daughter of Robert and Carol (Lazette) Banek. She had been married to James Townsend III.

She was a 1981 graduate of Monroe High School and worked as a cashier at Kroger on South Monroe Street.

Julie was an avid bowler and was on a few bowling leagues in her earlier days. She enjoyed camping in the summer and spending time with her friends and family.

She is survived by her daughter, Lichelle Townsend of Temperance and a sister, Cheryl (Richard) Spicer of Monroe.

She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Robert Banek, Jr.

In accordance with Julie’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Bacarella Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
