Juanita Mae "Nina" Hicks, 78 years, of Monroe, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at ProMedica Toledo Hospital.
Born March 7, 1945 in Speedwell, Tennessee, Juanita was the daughter of the late Herman H. and Edith M. (Pebley) Smith. The family moved to Monroe when Juanita was just 3 years old. Juanita attended Jefferson High School's graduating class of 1963.
On April 17, 1961 Juanita married her beloved husband, Paul F. Hicks, in Monroe.
In her early years Juanita worked at La-Z-Boy as a sewer. As a side job, she also did sewing out of her home, alongside her husband Paul, who was an upholsterer. As their family grew, she became a homemaker.
Juanita enjoyed and excelled at playing softball, she also enjoyed bowling, fishing, crafts, gardening, and was an amazing cook and baker. Most of all Juanita loved caring for her family, especially her grand and great grandchildren.
Juanita is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Paul, three loving children: Jeffery A. (Rhonda) Hicks, Debra M. Keck, and Christy A. (Rick) Martin all of Monroe, seven cherished grandchildren: Brandi, Aaron (Maddy), Jeffery, Jr., Danielle (Jeremy), Meganne, Cassy, and Jordyn (Alec), eight treasured great grandchildren: Alexis, Aubrey, Khloe, Connor, Ryder, Tanner, Hazel, and Patrick, a sister Doris (Joe) Vernot of Monroe and a brother: David (Suzanne) Smith of Brownstown.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-8 pm at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, Michigan, 48161, where funeral services celebrating Juanita's life will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023 at 11:00 am. Rev. Andy Hill will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
