Joseph Vincent Wing left his earthly residence and arrived at his Heavenly residence on Friday, February 22, 2008. Joe was diagnosed with cancer in December 2007. With the wonderful help of family and the Monroe Hospice, Joe was able to stay in his home. The Family will receive friends Sunday from 1-8 PM at Bacarella funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe. He will lie in state on Monday, February 25, 2008 at Stewart Road Christian Ministries Center, 1199 Stewart Rd., Monroe, from 10:00 AM until funeral services at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Sam Luke, Senior Pastor will officiate. Military interment services will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery under the auspices of VFW Post 1138. Joe was born in Detroit on September 26, 1923. His parents, Lawrence John Wing and Janet Traynor Wing, preceded him in death. He lived in Monroe since 1924 and attended St. Mary's grade school and Monroe High School. Joe enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps July 13, 1940. His first tour of duty was in Iceland in 1941. His second tour of duty was in the Pacific Theater. He was wounded during his second tour and received an Honorable Discharge April 4, 1945. He married Catherine (Parks) Jennings on April 10, 1989. Sadly she preceded him in death on May 8, 2004. Joe worked at the Monroe Auto Equipment and Ford Motor Company's Monroe Plant, retiring on October 1, 1980. He had been an amateur radio operator since June 7, 1961. He was a member of the American Legion and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, Amateur Radio Relay League, Quarter Century Wireless Association, and the National Rifle Association. He also was a member of the Stewart Road Christian Ministries Center where he served as an Usher. He is survived by his stepdaughter Joyce (Alvin) Lewis of Monroe, 2 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and 1 sister, Mary (Robert) St. Pierre of Monroe. Memorials may be made to the Stewart Road Christian Ministries Center or a charity of the donor's choice.
