Joseph A. Weiss, Sr., 80 years, of Monroe, Michigan went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at ProMedica Toledo Hospital.
Born December 16, 1942 in Saginaw, Michigan, Joe was the son of the late Alvin and Leona (Bartley) Weiss. Joe was a 1960 graduate of Monroe High School. He played baseball and boxed.
On January 14, 1983, Joe married the former Georgetta Drummonds, in Put-In-Bay, Ohio.
Joe owned and operated Union Trailer and Brake in Monroe and LeChasseur Charters in Monroe from which he retired in 2012.
Joe was a member and the first licensed charter boat captain of the Western Basin Charter Boat Association, a member of the Michigan Charter Boat Association and the Canvas Back Gun Club. An avid outdoors man, Joe enjoyed duck hunting and was a duck hunting guide for the Erie Shooting Club. He also enjoyed fishing, making fishing lures, and making duck decoys. Most of all Joe loved time spent with family.
Joe is survived by his wife of 40 years, Georgetta, six loving children: Michael Hensley of Monroe, Pamela Moffett of Monroe, James Hensley of Monroe, Joseph A. (Lisa) Weiss, Jr. of Monroe, Leeann (Kenneth) Coleman of Oxford, MI, and Stephen Nadeau of Monroe, 13 cherished grandchildren, 9 treasured great grandchildren, a brother-in-law, Ronald Thomas of Monroe and a sister-in-law, Eleanor Miller of Monroe.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by a granddaughter, a great grandson, and his sister Connie Thomas.
In keeping with Joe's wishes cremation has been held. Memorial visitation will be held at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, Michigan, 48161, on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 beginning at 11:00 am followed by a memorial service celebrating Joe's life that afternoon at 2:00 pm.
