Obituary

Johnny Dale Newsome, age 67 of Carleton, MI, passed away at his home with his loving wife Linda at his side on Sunday, May 28, 2023 after a long illness.
Johnny was born on July 23, 1955 to Dempsey and Velma (Adkins) Newsome in Wyandotte, MI. After attending Monroe High School, Johnny became a Master Mechanic, spending his early life working at several shops in Monroe before beginning his career at Friendly Ford. On September 18,2004, he married Linda L. (Cox) Richardson at Faith Chapel Church in Temperance. After 39 years as a Master Mechanic, Johnny retired in 2018 to spend more time with his many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and the love of his life, Linda.
Johnny enjoyed tinkering on his antique tractors and planting way too many tomato and pepper plants. He had many friends who would often stop by to ask advice about how to fix this or that, or where to find a part for their car. Often, Johnny would be able to find the part they needed stashed in the garage or barn. No one left empty handed, as he would always send you off with a bag of tomatoes, peppers, or cucumbers. Generations of our family have grown up knowing a trip to Johnny's meant playing outside all day, rides on the four-wheeler or golf cart, endless games of horseshoes, working in the garden pulling weeds, filling buckets with walnuts in the fall, and lots of lessons in life from Johnny.
Johnny leaves behind his beloved wife, Linda; step-daughters, Lisa Richardson of Belleville and Michelle (Tom) Bowman of Sylvania, OH; six grandchildren, Felicia Sheldon, Logan Taylor, Remi Taylor Annabell Richardson, Summit Brower, and Tommy Richardson, III; four siblings, Milfred (Maria) Newsome of Monroe, Doug (Dawn Metcalf) Newsome of Milan, James (Judy) Newsome of Carleton, and Juanita (Brian) Payette of Lincoln Park; nephew, Charlie (Monika) Stephenson and son Lukas; niece Nikita Ritchie and daughters Roxy and Malia; nephew, Doug (Shawna) Newsome and daughters Emma and Annabella; nephew, Keith (Angie) Newsom; niece, Lisa (Ben) Southard and children Austin and Brianna; niece, Heather (Perry) Schemmin and daughters Julia and Sophia; and many friends.
Johnny was preceded in death by his father, Dempsey; mother, Velma Brown; step-son, Thomas Richardson, II; brothers, Ray (Jennie) Newsome and Al (Mary) Newsome; sister, Jennifer Welch; and his mentor, Howard Cosby.
Family and friends may visit from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, June 4th at Bacarella Funeral Home where services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday. Rev. Troy Maiden will officiate followed by burial at Roselawn Memorial Park.
