John Wayne Prokurat age 62, of Newport, Michigan passed away on Friday, January 21, 2011 at Magnum Health & Rehabilitation Center in Monroe. He was born in Detroit, Michigan  March 24, 1948 to Madeline Joyce Saylor.  John had served in the US Army from 1968- 1972 and was stationed in Germany. He was employed at McLouth Steel as a hi-lo operator , worked for Benkhiser in Rockwood from 1996-2000 until the plant closed and then worked at a quarry in Sylvania, Ohio from 2000-2002.  He graduated from Taylor Center High School.  He loved playing pool with his son; loved watching movies and he loved his computer and playing war games He had been seriously ill since October 2010 until his death.  John is survived by his companion Diane Grummel of Newport, a son Jonathan Prokurat of Southgate, a stepson Paul Leibold of Southgate; and a brother Jerry (Sandy) Prokurat of Cooper City, Florida. He was preceded in death by his mother. Friends may call at the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Road, Monroe, 734-241-4600, on Tuesday, January  25, 2011 from 11:00 A.M. until  services at 1:00 P.M. with military honors  conducted by the VFW Post 1138 of Monroe. Interment will be in Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery in Flat Rock. Memorials may be made to help defray funeral expenses.
