John S. Morris, Jr., 82 years, a lifelong resident of Monroe, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital.
Born November 11, 1942 in Monroe, John was the son of the late John S. and Helen Marie (Gessner) Morris, Sr. John was a 1960 graduate of Monroe High School and attended the University of Toledo.
On November 19, 1960, John married his beloved wife, the former Charlotte Marie Price, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Sadly, Charlotte preceded him in death on August 9, 2024, after 63 years of marriage.
John worked as a salesman in the building industry his entire life, he worked for Morris Lumber, DuPont Paint, National Gypsum Company, Globe Building Material, Atlas Building Supply and Menard's, from which he retired.
John was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector. He served on Monroe City Council for many years and as Mayor Pro Tempore as needed. He was a former member and past Exalted Ruler of the Monroe Elks #1503 BPOE. He was also a proud member of the Red Noodle Pub Muskrat Softball Team. John enjoyed trips to the casino, playing ping pong with his lifelong friends at Frenchtown Senior Center, restoring classic cars, fishing, and watching baseball, especially the Detroit Tigers. Most of all John enjoyed time spent with family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
John is survived by four loving children: Cynthia Marie (John Kevin) Thompson of York, SC, Winifred Lynn (Kevin) Morris of Monroe, John Sydney (Tracy) Morris, III, of Chandler, AZ, and Jeffrey Scott (Kris) Morris of Toledo, nine cherished grandchildren: Maxwell (Lauren) McKee, Cameron (Lauren) Morris, Molly (Eric) Williams, Rachel (Eric) Wildstein, Meghan Morris, Sydney Morris, Morgan Morris, Zachary Morris, and Parker Morris, seven treasured great grandchildren, and three siblings: Jennifer Ann (Dennis) Varian of Detroit, Thomas M. (Roxanne) Morris of Monroe, and Mary E. Morris of Monroe.
In keeping with John's wishes cremation has been held. Memorial visitation will be held on Friday, March 7, 2025, from 4 – 8 pm at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, Michigan, 48161 where a memorial service celebrating John's life will begin at 6:00 PM that evening. Deacon Mike Stewart will officiate. Interment at Roselawn Memorial Park will be private.
