John J. Green's Obituary
John Joseph Green, age 79, of Monroe, passed away Thursday May 1, 2025 after a brief illness at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital with his family by his side.
John was born May 17, 1945 in Detroit, he was the son of John R. and Josephine (Swope) Green.
He was a June 1964 graduate of Taylor Center High School and entered the Army later that year. John served 2 tours in Vietnam as a truckdriver. He was honorably discharged in 1975.
John was a longtime resident of Elm House in Monroe. He enjoyed reading and walking to the corner store. John had a sweet tooth and always had some candy in his pocket. John will be remembered for his kindness and generosity by all that knew him.
He is survived by his brother, Roy Ooley; niece, Beth (Eric) Glenn; great nephew, Cole Glenn and the staff and residents of Elm House
John is preceded in death by his parents, John and Josephine (Swope) Green; brother, Ernest Ooley and sister-in-law, Betty Ooley.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Cemetery, 909 N. Monroe St., Monroe. Military honors will be performed by VFW Post 1138, Monroe and Rev. Joel Luallen, chaplain for Heartland Hospice, will officiate.
