John L. Goble, age 75 of Carleton, MI, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2024 at University of Michigan Hospital, Ann Arbor.
Born April 7, 1948 in Montgomery, WV, John L. was the son of the late Frank and Mary (Hudnall) Goble. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War from Apr. 19, 1967 until being honorably discharged on Jan. 30, 1971. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Meritorious Unit Commendation.
On May 5, 1969, John L. married Joan W. Jackson in San Diego, CA. Together they raised three children. He was employed by Ford Motor Company in Woodhaven for 30 years, retiring as a Quality Control Inspector.
John L. was a member of Stewart Road Church of God where he volunteered much of his spare time. He also offered his time and skills as a volunteer for the Appalachia Service Project to assist and improve living conditions of families in need. He was also a member of Carleton VFW Post 4093. Many years ago, John L. coached little league baseball, basketball, and soccer. He was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds Baseball team and enjoyed fishing, gardening, and small game hunting.
John L. is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joan Goble; son, Gregory Goble of St. Helen, MI; daughter, Jodie (Duane) Short of Newport, MI; three brothers, Charles (Laurel) Goble of Cincinnati, OH, Eugene Goble of Seaman, OH, and Michael Goble of Bethel, OH; sister, Anne Goble of Cincinnati, OH; five grandchildren: Michael Merlino, David Voggenreiter, Jay Martin, Maria Merlino, and Sena Bezirkan.
In addition to his parents, John L. was preceded in death by a son, John Goble, and two brothers, Ralph Goble and Frank Allan Goble.
Family and friends may visit from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23rd at Bacarella Funeral Home. John L. will lie in state Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of funeral at 11 a.m. at Stewart Road Church of God. Pastor Mark Ingram will officiate followed by military honors provided by Monroe VFW Post 1138. Burial will be privately attended by family at Huron Valley Cemetery in Flat Rock, MI.
