John Clifton Calvin, Sr., 61 years, of Newport, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 29, 2016 in Wyandotte, Michigan.
Born January 23, 1955 in Wyandotte, John was the son of Floyd C. and Alice W. (Posey) Calvin. John grew up in Wyandotte and attended Roosevelt High School.
John served his country honorably and proudly in the United States Navy from 1973 to 1975. While in the Navy John received his GED.
On September 10, 1982 John married his beloved wife, the former Linda M. Drew in Monroe.
John worked for many years in automobile sales and for the last 10 years he was a general manager at the Greater Detroit Auto Auction.
John was a member of the F&AM in Garden City, Michigan. He was an avid fan of the Detroit Lions and Tigers. He enjoyed playing golf, music, and time spent with family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Linda, his mother and step father: Alice "Wendy" (Fred) Malek of Southgate, MI, four children: Jennifer A. (Bryan LeFevre) Calvin, Stephanie R. Calvin, John C. Calvin, Jr., and Melanie A. Calvin, all of Newport, a special son: James T. Freiberg of Newport, seven cherished grandchildren: Taylor, Jaclyn, John III, Thomas, Sydnee, Joshua, and Baylee, seven siblings: Kim Calvin of Carleton, Charles (Sheila) Calvin of New Boston, Sherri (Roy) Collins of Brownstown, MI, Clifton "Wynn" Calvin of Garden City, MI, Shawn (Kathy) Calvin of Taylor, MI, Sandy Malek of Waterford, MI, an Lynda (Scott) Luh of Wyandotte, and his step mother Beverly Calvin of Brownstown, MI. Sadly, John was preceded in death by his father and a grandson Ethan.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 3-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, MI, 48161 where funeral services celebrating John's life will be held on Friday, September 2, 2016 at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Roy Southerland, Pastor of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park where the VFW Post 1138 will conduct military honors.
