John E. Alexa, 71, of Newport, died at 2 PM Monday, November 27, 2006 in Flower Hospital, Sylvania, OH where he had been since Thursday. He had been in declining health for several years. He was born September 23, 1935 in Cambridge, OH to Andrew and Judith (Blanchette) Alexa. John married Alexandra P. "Sandy" Juras on October 1, 1955 in St. Steven Catholic Church, Allen Park, they moved to the area in 1965 from Detroit. He was employed by Detroit Stoker, Monroe as a welder and in maintenance for 25 years; he also was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church, Newport. Survivors include his 3 sons, William A (Nancy) of Grove City, OH, Michael D. (Collene) of Lincoln, NB, and John A. of Ann Arbor, 4 daughters, Amy A. (Billy) Green, Catherine G. (Carl) Huber, and Jacquelyn (Gene Adkins) Alexa all of Monroe, and Alexandra "Sandy" (Rick) Healey of Scottsville, KY, 15 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. Sadly, his wife preceded him in death January 27, 2004. Friends may call 3-8 PM Wednesday at the Bacarella Funeral Home; he will lie in state Thursday at St. Charles Catholic Church from 9 AM until a Mass of the Resurrection for him at 10 AM. Fr. Fred Misiolek, pastor of the church will officiate, and burial will take place next to his wife at St. Charles Cemetery, Newport.
