Joey E. Massingill, age 70, of Luna Pier, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at Embassy of Swanton.
Joey was born December 6, 1955 in Monroe, he was the son of Warren P. and Jean (Timberlake) Massingill. He married Shari L. Vitek September 15, 2015.
He was a brick Layer for Schad Boiler until he had to take a medical retirement in 1990.
He enjoyed gardening, scrabble and word games. He was an avid sports fan, rooting for all the Detroit teams and University of Michigan but especially liked baseball.
He is survived by his wife Shari Vitek, son, Joey (Kandi) Massingill; two stepchildren, Sharesa (Andre) Waller and Nathaniel (Riley) Vitek; seven siblings, Rick (Patty) Massingill, Cathy Stark, Jacki Kehr, Tim (Joann) Massingill, Sally (Floyd) Martin, Julie Massingill and Jeannie (Bob) Yonkee; eleven grandchildren, Tyee Massingill, Evan Massingill, Kennedy, Logan, Evelyn, Bryce, Chase, Ava Mae, Emma Lynn, Jayson, Kaelee and Katie and three great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and other extended family members.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2026 at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday. Rev. Sally Martin, Joey's sister, will officiate. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle.
The family would especially like to thank the staff of Embassy of Swanton for the care and support that they provided to Joey and his whole family during his time there.
