JoAnn Parker, age 86, of Monroe, passed away Monday, April 1, 2024 in her home.
JoAnn was born May 27, 1937 in Tazwell, TN, she was the daughter of Herbert and Georgia (Evans) Waller. She marries Lonnie Standifer in 1955 in Tazwell sadly he preceded her in death. She then married Bruce Parker in 1983, he also preceded her in death.
She came to Monroe in 1953. She worked at the Lutheran Home from 1955 to 1965. She then worked as a teacher at Monroe ISD from 1965 until her retirement in 1998.
JoAnn was a longtime member of Frenchtown Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, vacation Bible school director, volunteer for the food ministry and leader of the widows prayer and Bible study group. She loved to sing in church. She lived her Faith by going out of her way to help others in need, which included serving as a foster parent from 1981 until 2019. We were blessed to know that Granny Jo was always praying for us.
She is survived by her three children, Gary (Nancy) Standifer, Rudy (Patricia) Standifer and Connie (Jeff) Winkleman all of Monroe; brother, Woodrow Waller; five grandchildren, Amy, Jonathan, Justin, Kayla and Troy; thirteen great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her two husbands, Lonnie Standifer and Bruce Parker, she is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, James Waller and sister Barbara Jean Needham.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 5, 2024 from 11 until funeral services at 2 p.m. at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Road, Monroe, MI. Rev Fred Mayes, pastor of Frenchtown Missionary Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle.
