Joan H. Dushane, age 91 of Monroe, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2026 at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital.
Born May 14, 1935 in Monroe, Joan was the daughter of the late George and Helen (Gravatt) Huber, Sr. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1953 and attended Northwestern University in Chicago, IL.
On April 7, 1956, Joan married Robert L. Dushane at First Presbyterian Church of Monroe. Together they raised four children. Sadly, Robert, Sr. passed away on April 10, 2005.
Joan’s early employment was in the banking industry in Monroe until she began a long career as a Real Estate Agent/Broker. After working for a few local real estate companies, Joan started her own business that she operated for 30+ years.
Joan was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Monroe, the Monroe High School Alumni Board, the Town and Country Garden Club, the Genealogy Society of Monroe County, and volunteer at the Monroe Thrift Shop. She is a former member of Monroe Eastern Star and the Monroe County Museum. Her personal interests included playing the piano, gardening, genealogy, knitting, and attending sporting and dance events of her grand and great-grandchildren.
Joan is survived by her children: Laura Lamon of TN, Robert (Debbie) Dushane, Jr. of Monroe, Donald (Natalie) Dushane of Monroe, and Thomas (Angela) Dushane of GA; brother, Donald (Janice) Huber of FL; 7 grandchildren: Leslee (John) Keilty, Robert Dushane, Julee (William) Hedrick, Michael (Terry) Dushane, Jenelle (Cameron) Kirkpatrick, Nathan Dushane, and Tyler Dushane; and 12 great-grandchildren who affectionately knew her as GG.
In addition to her parents and husband, Joan was preceded in death by a brother, George Huber, Jr. and son-in-law, Ed Lamon.
Family and friends may visit from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 29th at Bacarella Funeral Home. Graveside services will be privately attended by Joan’s family at Woodland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial donations be made to Saint Therese at IHM Senior Living, the American Heart Association, or ProMedica Hospital.
The family would like to acknowledge Joan’s special caregiver, LaCrisha Romanoski, the staff of Saint Therese at IHM Senior Living, and the staff of Monroe and Toledo ProMedica Hospitals.
