Jess J. Craig, 95 years, of Monroe, MI passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at 1:20 AM in Mercy Memorial Hospital where he had been for the last 2 weeks. Jess had been in poor health for the past 2 months and seriously ill since entering the hospital. Jess was born January 11, 1914 in Loyston, TN the son of the late James and Rhoda (Sweat) Craig. On May 21, 1938 in Jacksboro, TN Jess married his beloved wife the former Gladys Myers. Sadly she preceded him in death on June 6, 2001. In 1951 Jess and Gladys moved to Monroe to raise their family. Jess took a job at General Motors in Toledo where he worked for 22 years. Jess retired in 1979 as a precision welder. Jess was a member of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church. Jess is survived by his loving son David G. Craig of Monroe, 1 cherished grandson, 4 treasured great grandchildren, a brother Dennis Craig of TN and a sister Cecil Mead. In addition to his wife and parents Jess was preceded in death by a son James Craig, a grandson Shane Craig, and several brothers and sisters. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. in Monroe, where funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Friday, May 15, 2009 at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Roy Southerland pastor of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. The family has requested memorial donations be made to Monroe Missionary Baptist Church.
