Jennie Sisk

Our Heavenly Father welcomed home Jennie Bright Sisk on January 21, 2011. On December 22, 1920 Edward and Ada Martha (Martin) Jones gave birth to their last child, Jennie Bright Victor Jones in Mt. Pleasant, TN. After graduating from high school in Madisonville, KY, she entered the work force at Smith and Butterfield. On Halloween night in 1940, she met her future husband, William H. Sisk. They were married on January 19, 1942 and together they ran a small café in Kentucky. Since other family members had already moved to Michigan, and the job market being what it was, William and Jennie along with their two young daughters made the move to Michigan in 1949. Jennie had an older sister who was a nurse and she wanted to be one too. Her father said “one nurse in the family is enough” so her dream was never fulfilled. After raising her five children, she still had the desire to help people. She became a nurse’s aide and worked at the Lutheran Home, Beach Nursing Home and finally Mercy Memorial Hospital where she retired in June of 1983. She has been a member of the Monroe Missionary Baptist Church for more than 50 years, a past member of the ladies auxiliary of the Donald M. Squire Post 3943 VFW, a life time member of the Hopkins County Historical Society, and Monroe Senior Citizens. Jennie enjoyed reading her Bible and loved spending time with her family. Jennie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, parents, two sons; Gary and Samuel, a sister Mattie (Pat) Parish and brothers; Jimmy and Allan “Casey” Jones. Jennie is survived by 3 loving children; Jean (Dick) Johnson of Monroe, Beverly (Jonathan) Hoffman of Vicksburg, MI and William D. (Sue) Sisk of Monroe, a daughter in law Karen Sisk of Littleton, CO, 9 cherished grandchildren and 11 treasured great grandchildren and another one due in March. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home where funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Monday, January 24, 2011 at 1:00 PM. The Rev. Roy Southerland will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions are suggested to the following; Monroe Missionary Baptist Church, The Lutheran Home or Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe.
