Obituary

Jean H. Singleton, 81, of Monroe, passed away in her home at 3:30 AM, Thursday, March 15, 2007. She had been in poor health for 2 months and seriously ill for a week. She was born April 13, 1925 in Frenchtown Township to Conrad and Mary (Folk) Smith. On May 10, 1952 She married Roy W. Singleton in Monroe, sadly, he preceded her in death, July 27, 1983. She was a graduate of the Northwest Ohio Licensed Practical Nursing program at Riverside Hospital, Toledo. She was employed as a practical nurse by Monroe Hospital, Mercy Memorial Hospital, Frenchtown Nursing Home, and St. Mary's Health Care. She retired in 1993. A member of the 7th Day Adventist Church, Monroe, she enjoyed reading, spending time with her family and grandchildren, and going out to eat. Survivors include her children, Steven (Rosie) of LaSalle and Kathleen Upton of Monroe, 5 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Joan Asum, June 3, 1996, granddaughter, Mandy Elizabeth Asum, 4 brothers, Marvin, Mack, Woody, and Forrest Smith, and 5 sisters, Lucille Heiden, Eunice Smith, Alta Bragg, Lois Thorton, and Elsie Smith. Friends may call 1-8 PM Sunday at the Bacarella Funeral Home, where services will be held at 10 AM Monday, followed by burial at Woodland Cemetery. Pastor Stevan Mirkovich of the 7th Day Adventist Church will officiate. Memorial gifts in her name may be given to the Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe.
