Obituary

Jean Ann Setzler, 90, of La Salle passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on Saturday, June 18, 2022.
Jean was born February 5, 1932 in Monroe, MI. She was the daughter of Kenneth and Nellie (Reynolds) Armstrong of La Salle. She was 1 of 4 girls raised on a family farm where hard work was instilled into them at an early age.
Jean was a 1949 graduate of Monroe High School and worked in the High School cafeteria before graduating. As a senior, she worked for Monroe Auto Equipment through the co-op program.
Jean married Ralph Setzler of Blissfield on July 7, 1951. Together they established a farm in La Salle with their 6 sons which became Setzler & Son's Egg Farm. She helped work on the farm, keeping records, and paying bills, all while raising 6 boys. She also worked at Fermi II Nuclear Power Plant for 13 years before her retirement in 2002.
Jean accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age while attending La Salle Evangelical United Brethren Church. She was a longtime member of Stewart Road Church of God in Monroe, MI and was involved with several church activities. She was also an active member of WCTU (Women's Christian Temperance Union), where she served as Secretary and Treasurer for the LaSalle Union and Registrar for National Conventions. She also was a lifetime member of Monroe County Fair, MSU Extension, Monroe County Farm Bureau, Christian Business and Professional Women, Michigan Ohio Concert Choir, R.S.V.P., and volunteered for the Lion's Den Resale Shop in Temperance. She also enjoyed bowling with the Senior Starlets. At the 2021 Monroe County Fair, she and Ralph took home the trophy for the longest married couple, having been married 70 years.
Jean is survived by her husband Ralph Setzler of LaSalle; four sons, James (Donna) Setzler, Aaron (Robin) Setzler, Randy (Joni) Setzler, Daryl (Heide) Setzler, all of LaSalle; two daughters-in-law, Patricia Setzler of Indianapolis and Maria Setzler of Detroit; a sister, Ilma Reppe of Monroe; sixteen grandchildren, Barbara (Ignazio) Cuccia, Christopher (Katie) Setzler, Donald (Melody) Setzler, Lauren Setzler, Gabriel Setzler, Amy (Justin) Baird, Bethany (Michael) Fischer, Caryn (Brian) Sandwisch, Dayna (Caden) Goldstein, Shawn (Desirée) Setzler, Corey (Mallory) Setzler, Bailey (Jaye) Biniecki, Jackson (Kassidy) Setzler, Seth (Carrie) Setzler, Lukas (Anna) Setzler and Mark (Brittney) Poupard and twenty-four great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Larry and David Setzler; two sisters, Wanda VanEeckoutte and her twin Jane Eisenmann; and granddaughter Emily Setzler.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 pm on Thursday, June 23rd at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Road, Monroe. She will lie in state on Friday, June 24th at Stewart Road Church of God, 1199 Stewart Road, Monroe at 10 am with service at 11 am. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, La Salle.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to Michigan WCTU or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
