Janet Fraser Lang, age 87 of Monroe, MI, passed away, Saturday, September 22, 2007 at 8:59 PM in Mercy Memorial Hospital. Janet was born December 22, 1919 in Bessemer, MI the daughter of the late Fred C. and Hazel (Frazer) Dickinson. After graduation from high school Janet enrolled at the University of Michigan where she received both her bachelors and masters degrees in education. Janet believed learning was a life long process and continued her education by studying in the south of France and at the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama. On June 20, 1942 Janet married Walter P. Lang in Tecumseh, MI. Sadly he preceded her in death on October 1, 1992. Janet worked as a French Teacher for Jefferson Schools for 20 years retiring in 1980. She was also the head of the Jefferson French Club. Janet was a very active member of Monroe's First Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, organized the Book Club and was an Elder. Other memberships include, Friends in Council, The Monroe Thrift Shop, several book clubs, and MARSP. Janet enjoyed traveling, where she traveled extensively with Elderhostel an educational travel group. Janet also enjoyed gardening, spending time at the family cabin in Gaylord, MI and spending time with her family and numerous friends. Janet is survived by her 4 loving sons, Dr. John F. (Barbara) Lang of Alma, MI, Dr. W. Paul Lang of Toledo, OH, Dr. James R. (Linda) Lang of Saline, MI, and Frederick F. (Renee') Lang of Rockford, MI. 8 cherished grandchildren, Amy, Kyle, Kevin, Jessica, Erik, Aaron, Evan and Allison, and 3 cherished great grandchildren, Andres', Audrey and Ethan. In addition to her husband and parents Janet was preceded in death by her brother Frederick Dickinson. Janet's family will receive friends at the First Presbyterian Church on Saturday, September 29, 2007 from 10:00 AM until a memorial service celebrating her life at 11:00 AM where all are invited to share a special memory of Janet. The pastors of the church the Rev.'s Dean and Ellen McGormley will officiate. Memorial contributions may be given to a charity of the donors choosing. Cremation has been held and the Bacarella Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
