Jan Terese Stein, (62), a lifelong resident of Monroe, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 2, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Jan was born April 6, 1962. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Donna (Wickenheiser) Langton. Jan attended St. Patrick Catholic School and Church in Carleton, MI. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. Jan attended St. Mary Academy, where she ran track. She graduated high school in 1980 and then went on to continue her studies at the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy. After having her fourth child, Jan returned to Spring Arbor University to receive her Bachelor of Science degree.
On July 22, 1983, Jan married the love of her life, Bradley P. Stein, at St. Patrick Catholic Church.
She worked as a pharmacist technician at Professional Village Pharmacy in Monroe for 18 years. Jan left her job in 2015 to take on the role as caregiver for her ailing mother and subsequently her father. Even after her cancer diagnosis, Jan lived life to the fullest. She enjoyed working out, doing arts and crafts, painting, knitting, crocheting, and tending to her flower gardens. She loved spending her summers at the cottage, where she could soak up the sunshine during the day and take a relaxing pontoon ride in the evening. Most of all, Jan was the happiest when she was spending time with family, especially her grandchildren, who lovingly called her Nana.
Jan was an inspiration to all those that had the privilege of knowing her. While her loss will leave a big hole in the lives of her family and friends, they take comfort in knowing that she is now healed in God's loving hands.
Jan is survived by her beloved husband of 40 years, Brad, four loving children: Zachary J. Stein of Monroe, Travis E. (Ashlee) Stein of Birmingham, AL, Abbie E. (Mike Neill) Stein of Adrian, MI, and Alexandra M. (William) Harnica of Williamston, MI and seven cherished grandchildren: Dalton, Colton, Bryson, Paige, Easton, Jonathan, and Liam, and six siblings: Tina Bressler, Jill Calvin, James (Judy) Langton, Herb (Lana) Langton, Rock (Janice) Langton and Dan (Sandra) Langton, and a sister in law, Lyn Langton. Jan was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Mark. Jan's in-laws include Brian (Barb) Stein, Beverly Pierce, Barb (Pat) Pifer, Bennett (Lori) Stein, Bridget (Stewart) Rosenberg.
In order to honor Jan's wishes, she has been cremated. A memorial visitation will be held at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. Monroe, Michigan 48161 on Thursday, May 9, 2024. Friends and family will be welcomed from 2 – 8 pm. Deacon Tracy Esper will lead the Rosary at 6 pm.
On Friday, May 10, 2024, at 10:00 am, Jan's cremated remains will lie in state at St. Patrick's Divine Grace Parish where she was a faithful member. The Mass of the Resurrection celebrating Jan's life will begin at 11:00 am with Fr. Mike Woroniewicz officiating.
