James A. Younglove, age 78 of Monroe, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2024 at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital due to complications of Parkinson's Disease.
Born December 14, 1945 in Monroe, Jim was the son of the late Earl and Pauline (Steinman) Younglove. He graduated from Monroe Catholic Central High School in 1963 and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1965-1967.
Jim married Madeline P. Costello on February 1, 1985 at the First Congregational Church in Maybee, MI. He was a proud active member of the Maybee Community where he owned and operated River Raisin Welding and Fabrication. Jim was also employed as a pipefitter through Local 671 for several years. During the last 25 years of his career, he worked in the maintenance department at Quaker Chemical in Detroit.
Jim was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Little Big Horn Association where he enthusiastically participated as a Civil War Re-enactor. He was previously involved in the National Marriage Encounter program through the Archdiocese of Detroit with his wife Madeline, serving as former President Couple. His personal hobbies included bicycling, countless visits to Greenfield Village, and recreational therapeutic boxing to "Knock Out Parkinson's"
Jim is survived by his wife Madeline; 7 children from his first marriage, Adam (Cheryl) Younglove of S. Rockwood, Aaron (Deirdre) Younglove of Monroe, Reuben (Kathy) Younglove of Allen Park, Tessa (George) Berg of Santa Rosa, CA, Abram (Aimee) Younglove of Monroe, Sarah Dehl of Dearborn, and Molly (Derek) Hurst of Monroe; 3 siblings, Paul (Angela) Younglove, Jean Grubb, and Dale (Donna) Younglove, all of Maybee; 13 grandchildren; sister-in-law, Betty Younglove of Monroe; his beloved pet cat Winston, and favorite grandcat Hank.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret (Lionel) Kroeger; 2 brothers, Thomas and Jack (Kay) Younglove; sister-in-law, Mary Jo Johnson; and brother-in-law, Larry Grubb.
Family and friends may visit from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24th at Bacarella Funeral Home where Monroe VFW Post 1138 will offer military honors at 6 p.m. followed by a prayer service led by Rev. Joel Luallen. Jim will lie in state Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated by the church pastor, Rev. Fr. David Burgard at 11 a.m. with cremation to follow.
To honor Jim's desire to cure Parkinson's disease, the family requests monetary acts of kindness be directed to the Parkinson's Foundation (P.O. Box 6003, Albert Lea, MN 56007-6603) in lieu of flowers.
