James Yonkee

James H. Yonkee, 84 years, of Toledo, OH, went home to be with The Lord on Friday, May 3, 2013 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo. Born October 10, 1928 in Toledo, OH, Jim was the son of the late Otto and Florence (Wagner) Yonkee. Jim attended school in Toledo and was a 1947 graduate of Macomber High School. Jim went on to further his education ITT Technical Institute. Jim served his country honorably and proudly during the Korean War as a Sergeant First Class in the US Army’s 82nd Airborne Division. For his service Jim received the National Defense and United Nation Service Medal’s with 1 overseas Bar, the Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star and the Distinct Unit Citation. He served from December 1, 1950 to August 30, 1952. On June 9, 1956 Jim married his beloved wife, the former Jean R. Seibert at Rosary Cathedral in Toledo. Sadly, she preceded him in death on March 17, 1999 after 42 years of marriage. Jim was employed as an electrician for the Toledo Blade for 26 years from which he retired in 1993. He also worked as a salesman and repairman for Hobart for many years. Jim was a member of Stewart Road Christian Ministries Center where he helped with maintenance of the Church and The Patriot Guard. Jim enjoyed camping, boating, jet skiing, and spending time with his family especially his grand children. Jim is survived by three loving children: Robert R. (Jeannie) Yonkee of Erie, MI, Jane A. (Dan) Bollinger of Millbury, OH, and Marilyn A. (Douglas) Frosch of Northwood, OH. Four cherished grandchildren: Nicole (Charles) Cline, Aaron (Allison) Bollinger, Amy (Jonathon) Samarzia, and Jennifer Frosch, and one cherished great grandson Camden Bollinger. In addition to his parents and wife, Jim was preceded in death by a grandson Luke Yonkee and grandparents Frank Knox and Margaret Knox who helped raise him and a brother Richard Yonkee. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., in Monroe. On Thursday, May 9, 2013 he will lie in State at Stewart Road Christian Ministries Center from 10 AM until funeral services celebrating his life at 11 AM. Rev. Joseph Byrd will officiate. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Memorial contributions are suggested to The Luke Yonkee Memorial Music Scholarship Fund at any Fifth Third Bank.
