James R. "Jim" Sharrer, 56 years, of Monroe, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 20, 2024 at 9:41 pm in his home surrounded by family and friends.
Born January 22, 1968, in Toledo, Ohio, to James Franklin and LeAnn (McCree) Sharrer, Jim attended Toledo Public Schools and went on to graduate from Whitmer High School in 1986. Jim then joined the United States Army and became a Military Police Officer for the National Guard before being honorably discharged.
Jim worked for his father-in-law at Pizza Milano and Café Milano, where he met his soulmate, sweetheart, and the love of his life, Antonina Annette Perna. They courted for three years before finally marrying on November 11, 1989 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monroe. Fr. Don Hanchon, now Bishop Hanchon, presided.
Jim and Annette made their home in Monroe. Jim worked as a welder for Ford Motor Company for 14 ½ years before he was medically retired from a work injury in October of 2003.
Jim and his family were members of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Parish in Monroe. He was the epitome of a gentle giant. Jim was a dedicated fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes his entire life, never wavering for the opposition once. He enjoyed playing euchre and throwing horseshoes. Before his injury Jim also enjoyed playing softball. In his younger days, Jim was quite athletic and played baseball, even getting a tryout with the Toledo Mud Hens. Jim had a love for all animals, especially dogs.
Jim's love for family was like no other, he leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of nearly 35 years, Annette, two loving daughters, Angelica (Lynn Coffey) Sharrer and Gabriella (John Hibbard) Sharrer both of Monroe, a grandson, Jeremiah James Sharrer, his mother-in-law, Josephine Perna, his brother, Nino (Kristen) Perna, a niece, Julia (Matt) Nisley, a nephew, Frank Joseph Perna, two great nieces: Camila and Sophia Nisley, and a great nephew, Liam Nisley.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Kathy Segura, his father-in-law, Joseph Perna, a brother, Frank Joseph Perna, and a sister-in-law, Christina (Wilhelm) Perna.
In keeping with Jim's wishes cremation will be held. Jim's cremated remains will lie in state on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Monroe, beginning at 10:00 am where Mass of the Resurrection celebrating Jim's will begin at 11:00 am. Fr. Kishore Babu Battu will be the celebrant.
