James Edward Pritchett, Jr., age 83, of Monroe, passed away Sunday, January 28, 2024 surrounded by his family in his home.
Jim was born January 17, 1941 in Evergreen, Illinois. He was the son of James Edward and Evelyn Rosalie (Mansfield) Pritchett, Sr. He married Sally Ann Oerther July 2, 1988 at Zion Lutheran Church, Monroe.
He was a 1959 graduate of Monroe Catholic Central High School. He began his college education at University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana before graduating from St. Edwards University in Austin, Texas in 1969 with a BA in education. He taught in elementary schools in Wisconsin, Indiana and Michigan before being hired at Ford Motor Company Woodhaven Stamping Plant, where he completed a four year electrical apprenticeship and worked as an electrician until his retirement in 2002.
He was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, Monroe, Michigan, serving as congregational treasurer and on the Board of Trustees.
Jim enjoyed his hobbies in his retirement. He researched family trees of friends, family, or random people. He also served as a member and past President of the Genealogy Society of Monroe County. He shared his love of model railroading with grandsons, Alex and Samuel. He shared his love of stamp collecting with his granddaughter, Anna. He loved watching Hallmark movies with his granddaughters. Jim was an avid sports fan of his Detroit teams. His grandson, Kyle, helped him check off his bucket list by taking him to the Tiger's opening day at Comerica Park and, just this past season, they went to Ford Field to watch the Lions game on Thanksgiving Day. He enjoyed feeding and watching the neighborhood critters and birds.
He is survived by his wife Sally, daughters, Lois Pritchett, Sally (Lucas) Goetz and Laura (John) Wyrabkiewicz, stepchildren, Elizabeth (Pete) Hiom, Rev. Stephen (Heidi) Daley and Christopher (Melissa) Daley; siblings, Robert Pritchett, Patricia (Dale) Younglove, Mary (James) Henderson and Theresa Pritchett; grandchildren, Brittany (Sam), Christopher, Kayla (Mikey), Zack, Amy, Kyle, Sonja, Samuel, Eliana, Katie, Anna, Alex and Emersyn and great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Braden, Braxton, Cameron, Carter and Scarlett.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Norman Pritchett and a stepdaughter, Catherine Hickman.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 2, 2024 at Bacarella Funeral Home 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, MI. He will lie instate at 10 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church 186 Cole Rd., Monroe, MI with funeral services at 11 a.m. A private burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle, MI.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorial contributions be made to Zion Lutheran Church or the Genealogy Society of Monroe County.
