Obituary

James H. Myers, age 74, of Monroe, MI passed away, Monday, December 31, 2007 at 4:25 AM in the Mercy Memorial Nursing Care Center. Jim had been in poor health for 5 months. Jim was born August 26, 1933 in Monroe, MI the son of the late Basil and Lillian (Navarre) Myers. Jim was a 1951 graduate of Monroe High School where he was the Drum Major for the Marching Band. Jim went on to receive his Bachelor's Degree and his Master's Degree in Education from Eastern Michigan University. Jim served his country in the US Navy from August 19, 1952 to August 14, 1956. On November 10, 1967 Jim married Mary Frances "Fran" Cusumano at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Monroe. Jim was employed by Monroe Public Schools for 33 years as a Special Education Teacher working at both Custer Junior High and Cantrick Junior High. Jim retired in 1995. Jim was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Monroe where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. Other memberships include the National Education Association and the Michigan Education Association and their respective retirement associations. For 20 years Jim was the summer camp director for Holiday Home Camp in Lake Geneva, WI working with the underprivileged and diabetic children. After retiring Jim remained a member of the alumni. Jim enjoyed his trips to and spending time in Montana, where he enjoyed; hiking, fishing and hunting. Jim is survived by his beloved wife Fran, his 2 loving sons; Eric W. and Roberta Myers of Ashland, MT and Christopher J. Myers of Monroe, his mother in law Mary A. Cusumano of Monroe, 3 brothers; Basil T. Myers of Beulah, MI, Clarence L. (Linda) Myers of Monroe, and Darrell "Putt" (Noreen) Myers of Surprise, AZ. 3 sisters; Georgetta Poleo of Monroe, Eva (Thomas) Micka and Ruth A (Charles) Fish both of Sarasota, FL. In addition to his parents Jim was preceded in death by a nephew David Fish and a brother in law William Poleo. Visitation will be held on Friday from 2-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, where a military service will be held at 4 PM and Scripture Service at 6 PM. He will lie in state on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at St. Mary's Catholic Church from 9 AM until Mass of the Resurrection celebrating his life at 10 AM. Private interment services will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Holiday Home Camp or St. Mary's Catholic Church Building Fund.
