James Leon Miller Sr., age 80, of Monroe, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2008 at 4:48 PM. He was at Heartland of Waterville, Ohio. Leon had been in poor health since January. Friends may call at the Bacarella Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2-8 PM. A family hour will be held from 6-8 PM. Rev. Al Overstreet will officiate the services on Wednesday at 11 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle. Leon was born on February 15, 1928 in Toledo, OH to Hazel Baker and Benjamin Joyner. He came to Monroe around 1940 from Rossford, OH. He served his country during WWII in the US Navy. Leon married Jessie Mae Hoskins on August 23, 1949. He was retired from Detroit Stoker. Leon is survived by his loving wife, Jessie Mae, 2 sons; James L. "Bug" Miller, Jr. and Derick Miller, 2 daughters; Jacquelyn (Ab) Montague and Sadaila Miller, all of Monroe, 3 sisters; Johnnie Mae White, Joyce Newkirk, and Reba Price, all of Toledo, OH, 10 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. Sadly, his parents, a son, Marcus Miller, daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Miller, 2 brothers, and 4 sisters all preceded him in death. Memorial gifts in his name may be given to the Second Missionary Baptist Church or Al Overstreet Evangelistic Ministry.
