James Mayes

James David Mayes, 45 years, a lifelong resident of Monroe, MI went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. Born August 9, 1967 in Monroe, Jim was the son of Donald E. and Joyce (Wilson) Mayes, Sr. Jim was a 1985 graduate of Dundee High School. Jim went on to further his education and received his associates degree in Applied Sciences from Monroe County Community College. On May 5, 1990 Jim married the love of his life, the former Patti A. Risden in Monroe. Jim was employed as the IT/Quality Manager for Monroe Environmental for the past 14 years. Jim was a member of The First Wesleyan Church in Monroe where he served as a board member and Trustee. Jim ran the sound system for the church and was involved in the mission for the homeless in Detroit named “My Brothers Keeper”. Jim enjoyed computers, riding his Harley, driving his Camaro and was an avid University of Michigan and Detroit Tiger fan. Most of all Jim loved his wife and his family. Jim is survived by his beloved wife Patti, his loving parents: Donald and Joyce Mayes, Sr., of Monroe, four siblings: Donald E. (Tracie) Mayes, Jr. of Monroe, Brian M. Mayes of Monroe, D. Michelle (Joe, Jr.) Chavis of Fountain Run, KY, and Teresa K. (Dan) Hawkins of Monroe, his mother in law: Betty Risden of Monroe, a brother in law Dale Risden of Monroe and eleven nieces and nephews: Jordan, Tyler, Jarroed, Aireka, Joe III, Caleb, Jacob, Ethan, Hannah, Rob, and Lindsay. Sadly he was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father in law. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., in Monroe. On Wednesday, May 29, 2013 he will lie in state at Bible Fellowship Church from 10:00 AM until funeral services celebrating his life at 11:00 AM. Rev. Paul Roemer, pastor of First Wesleyan Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Wesleyan Church in Monroe.
