James E. "Peewee" Long, age 84, of Monroe, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2026.
James was born July 10, 1941, he was the son of James Edward and Julia (Paul) Long. He married Charlene Dawes November 22, 1980 in Monroe.
He was a graduate of Monroe High School and he enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with family. He and his wife attended Gateway Anabaptist Church.
He was an electrician at Ford Motor Company Milan Plastics Plant for 40 years retiring in 1996.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Charlene; nieces and nephews, Cindy Callahan, David (Kim) Long, Jeremy Long, Jennifer Long and their families; Charlene's siblings and nieces, Margie (Ron) Sutton, James (Nina) Dawes, Gary Dawes and Rickey Best; nieces Connie (Jeff) Agius and Bonnie (A.J.) Moser and their families.
He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Jamie VanSlambrouck, infant grandchildren, Noah and Luke; brother, Robert Long, Sr., brother-in-law, Larry Dawes; sisters-in-law, Alice Best and Michele Long; nephews, Robert Long, Jr. and Ronnie Sutton.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe with funeral services at 4 p.m. Rev. David Ickes, pastor of Gateway Anabaptist Church, will officiate. In accordance with his wishes cremation will follow and inurnment will take place at a later date at Deerfield Twp. Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family would suggest memorial contributions be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
