James Kenneth Knapp, age 83 of Monroe, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2025 at Corewell Beaumont University Hospital in Royal Oak, MI.
Born September 15, 1942 in Monroe, Jim was the son of the late Kenneth and Velma (Call) Knapp. He was a 1961graduate of Monroe High School and had a long career in the auto industry as a machine repair set-up man. He was employed by many down river companies until retiring in 2004 from MNP in Utica, MI.
A longtime member of Monroe Moose Lodge 884 in Monroe, Jim held many positions. He served as Junior Governor from 2011-2012, Governor from 2012-2013, and Junior Governor again from 2013-2016. He also served as Moose Legion Chairman from 2022-2023 and Moose Trustee from 2010-2013. He was also a member of its 25+ year member club and the Moose Euchre Team.
Jim served as 4-H Superintendent for over 10 years at the Monroe County Fair and was a member of the Monroe Trailblazers Snowmobile Club and the Monroe Sports Center Men's Bowling League.
Jim was a huge sports fan, especially of the Michigan State Spartans. For years he shot pool in many area pool leagues. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting at his cabin up north until his health began to fail. His peaceful time was spent gardening, then canning the fruits of his labor.
Jim is survived by a son, James Melvin Knapp; daughter, Karol Kay Knapp; sister, Scarlett (Kenneth) Boylan; granddaughter, Katilyn (Brost) (Kevin) Minney; two great-grandchildren, Aiden Yoakum and Ashton Minney.
Bacarella Funeral Home is assisting the family with cremation arrangements. A celebration of Jim's life is being planned at the Moose Lodge on April 19, 2026 from 2 - 6 p.m.. Please wear your favorite sports attire. Private interment will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park.
