James W. Hill

A proud East-end kid, James W. “J.W.” Hill, left his earthly home on Thursday, December 4, 2025 to join his wife and family. Born to the union of Hubert and Geneva (Agee) Hill on July 12, 1938, Jim was born in Monroe and attended Lincoln Elementary School and Monroe High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and honorably served his country from July 21, 1955 until being discharged on August 13, 1957. In 1958, Jim met his future wife, Faye Sharkey, and the two were married on June 20, 1959 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. Together they raised three daughters. Jim joined Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 671 in 1959 and had a great career. As a welder he was employed by DTE Monroe Power Plant, Fermi I, Fermi II, Davis-Besse in Ohio, Donald C. Cook Nuclear Plant in Berrien Co., MI, and the Trenton Channel Power Plant. Additionally, he worked on the Alaskan Pipeline and for Sprinkler Fitters Local 704 in Detroit. During his working career, he held the position of General Foreman eight times and Superintendent seven times. Jim was a member of the Monroe Golf and Country Club for 31 years where he served on many committees and its board of directors. He won many invitationals and was the 2004 Senior Club Champ. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and played softball for Master Plumbers for 21 years and managed the team for 3 years. He previously sang in the church choir when he was an active member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. Jim is survived by his daughters, Lesa (Wade) Rembowski of Monroe, Susan (John) Carr of Monroe, and Katie (Greg) Duvall of Newport, MI; 7 grandchildren: James Rembowski, Kyle Rembowski, Lee Wilder, Malarie Wilder, McCaulie Johnson, Cody Duvall, and Courtney Duvall; and 7 great-grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Faye on Dec. 10, 2022; 3 brothers, Earl, Hubert, Jr., and Darrel Hill; and a sister, Barbara Hill. Family and friends may visit from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 9th at Bacarella Funeral Home where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Rev. Rick Massingill, pastor of North Monroe Street Church of God will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park under the auspices of Monroe VFW Post 1138.
