James S. Gerweck, 80 years, a lifelong resident of Monroe, MI passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at Mercy Memorial Hospital in Monroe.
Jim was born July 20, 1930 in Monroe, MI the son of the late Lee G. and Louise R. (Fischer) Gerweck. Jim attended Monroe Public Schools and was a 1948 graduate of Monroe High School.
On August 25, 1951 in Monroe Jim married his beloved wife the former Shirley J. Ellerman.
Jim worked as a Die Welder at the General Motors Powertrain Plant in Toledo for 13 years. He and his wife Shirley also owned and operated Gerweck's Homespun Fabrics in Monroe for 17 years from which they retired in 2000.
Jim enjoyed woodworking and collecting miniature trains. He was also very involved in scouting where he served as a Cub Master and a Webelos Leader. Most of all Jim enjoyed and loved his family
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Shirley, 4 loving children; Terry L. (Mary) Gerweck of Monroe, Keith R. (Mary) Gerweck of Monroe, Louise K. (Leo) Malvitz of Carleton, MI and Amy S. (Allen) Dean of Ida, MI, 7 cherished grandchildren; Kira, Aubree, Sarah, Matthew, Laura, James, and Michelle.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by 1 son Martin Craig Gerweck, and 3 brothers; Francis, Lee and Robert.
In keeping with Jim's wishes there will be no visitation or services. The Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., in Monroe is assisting with funeral arrangements.
