James E. Johnson, age 92, of Novi, formerly of Monroe, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2026 at Trinty Health Hospital Livonia after a short illness.

James was born March 11, 1934 in Vincennes, Indiana. He was the son of William M. and Louella (Gray) Johnson. He married Frances M. Liparoto on May 22 1954, they had met in high school and were able to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary before her passing in 2024.

Jim was a 1952 graduate of Monroe High School and attended Henry Ford Community College. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 1266 and their 4th degree Raisin River General Assembly 0488 and a former member of the Monroe Golf and Country Club.

He proudly served his country in the National Guard.

Jim was a journeyman tool and die maker and then engineer for Ford Motor Company, Monroe plant for 41 years, retiring in 1993.

He enjoyed golfing, traveling, ice cream, cruising, action movies, boating on Lake Michigan and helping with projects of all kinds whenever needed. What he enjoyed most was the time he spent with his family.

He is survived by three sons, James J. (Nancy) Johnson, Joel J. Johnson and Jeric (Sarah) Johnson; three grandchildren, Brian (Jessica Townsend) Johnson, Annika (Alex) Wahlgren and Fiona Johnson.

In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, William Johnson and Richard Johnson.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2026 from 9:30 a.m. until funeral services at 11:30 a.m. at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe. Rev. Kishore Battu will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroe.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Knights of Columbus Council 1266.
