James H. Davis Sr., 89, of Monroe, passed away in his home, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, January 26, 2017.
He was born on September 15, 1927 in Middlesboro, Kentucky. He grew up in Monroe with his parents, Andrew and Edna (Quillen) Davis.
On May 24, 1947 he married Myrtle Chapman in the St. Michael's rectory. Sadly, she preceded him in death on August, 9, 1997.
James will be remembered for being a hard working man, he held several jobs over the years, including working as a Watkins Dealer, selling Raleigh Products, working at the wholesale distributor, Lee and Cady's, and for many years he worked for Consolidated Paper Co. until its closing. He finished his employment career with Detroit Edison, working for 14 years before retiring in 1992. He was a avid collector and a Flea Market Vendor, and he enjoyed watching cowboy movies and working at Larks Nest Collectible Shop.
James is survived by his children, Bonnie (Jim) Wilfong, Barbara Davis, and James H. Davis Jr., all of Monroe; a sister, Marlene Chambo of Monroe; 5 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
As well as his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Robert Henderson JR., a great grandson, Jesse James Davis, and 3 brothers, Richard, Harold, and Ernie.
Friends are invited to call at the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 South Telegraph, on Monday, January 30th, from 1 PM until his funeral service at 5:30 PM. Fr. Jim Smalarz from St. John the Baptist Catholic Church will officiate, and burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery.
