Obituary

Jack Lawrence Walton, 96 years old of Monroe, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and loved ones.

Jack was born in Toledo, Ohio to Chester Walton and Lottie B. Wyatt. He attended Scott High School and Toledo Art School.

Jack's desire to serve his country led to him joining the Merchant Marines as a young teen during WW2. After the Merchant Marines he joined the Army and became a military policeman serving in Japan after the war. It has been said that the Japanese women were crazy about his dimples.

After his service in the Army, Jack married Doris De Vries, from this union, Jack Jr. was born. As an entrepreneur, Jack owned and operated many businesses including bowling alleys, car lots and sewing centers.

Jack was the last Walton of his generation. His family loved hearing him tell stories of his growing up in Toledo, Ohio

On March 10, 1971 Jack married his forever love, Debra Johnson. Although there were 22 years difference in their ages, they enjoyed over 54 years of marriage. They loved traveling and taking cruises. But their absolute favorite thing to do was just being together. Some people began to refer to them as "Velcro Buddies" because they were always together.

After Jack's retirement he became involved in community service. He was recognized as being exceptional in his work.

From driving people to their dialysis appointments, serving as day chaplain at the hospital, organizing blood drives, homeless shelters or assisting his wife with Red Cross programs, Jack stayed busy. But not so busy that he couldn't enjoy his favorite sport…golf. He was proud to have achieved a hole in one at the Dundee golf course.

God, country and family. These were paramount to Jack. He was loved by so many. The "Jack stories" will be told and retold at gatherings for years to come. For instance, on the day he died, he noted the gathering of loved ones around his bed and sat up and asked, "Who decided I was going to die today?"

His wit, charm and whistling will never be forgotten.

His mother, father, brother Bob and son preceded him in death. Jack leaves behind his wife, treasured grand and great and great, great-grandchildren. Brandon (Tracy), Angie, Jack the third (Lisa), Katie, Chloe, Caleb, Rebekah, Zachary, Aiden, Kinley and Koleson. He also leaves behind in-laws, dozens of nieces, nephews and friends.

No goodbyes Jack. Just see you later.

At his request cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Bacarella Funeral Home is assisting the family.
