Obituary

Jack Calvin Lindquist, Sr., age 90, of Monroe, passed away Friday, January 10, 2025 in his home surrounded by his family.
Jack was born July 28, 1934 in Monroe and was the son of Alvin and Marguerite (Craft) Lindquist. On December 17, 1955, he married the love of his life, Norma Jean Stanifer, at the First Evangelical United Brethern Church in Monroe, Michigan. Sadly, she preceded him in death on December 27, 2023 after sixty eight years of marriage.
Jack began his formal education at Golden Elementary School and became a graduate of Monroe High School in 1952.
That same year, Jack proudly enlisted in the US Air Force on August 19, 1952 and served until his honorable discharge on August 18, 1956.
Jack started Lindquist Appliance Parts and Service in 1963 spending the next 37 years building his business reputation based on honesty and quality work. He retired in 2000, turning the business over to his son, Jack II, whom he started training in 1978.
Jack was an outdoorsman. He was very active in hunting, fishing, golfing, boating and going to his cabin to enjoy nature. He was on several trap shooting leagues and was a member of Monroe Road and Gun Club, Breast Bay Gun Club, the Canvasback Gun Club, and the Detroit Beach Boat Club. Jack and his wife, Norma, also bowled in leagues for many years. As a couple, they also enjoyed gardening and feeding the birds who visited their backyard oasis. Sunny summer days were often spent relaxing by the swimming pool and grilling out for picnics, birthdays, holidays and any other excuse for gathering with friends and family.
Jack was elected by the citizens of Frenchtown Township to serve as a Trustee for 28 years and provided a voice for the community serving on numerous committees each year. He was also a member of Sertoma International and served as past president.
Jack is survived by his four children, Lana (Dean) Schweinsberg of Monroe, Debbie Barron of Monroe, Jack (Kim) Lindquist II of Monroe and Susan (Mark) Fields of Ft. Wayne, IN; two siblings, Judy (Fred) Gesell of Monroe and Ronald (Judy) Lindquist of Monroe; fourteen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law, Thomas Barron and two brothers, Marvin and Lonnie Lindquist.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 14, 2025 from 3 to 8 p.m. at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. with military honors provided by VFW Post 1138, Monroe. Rev. Roy Southerland will officiate. In accordance with Jack's wishes cremation will follow.
